Building for speed and scale: Meter warehouse operations
When setting out to build Meter, we weren't interested in introducing another point solution to the market. Instead, we wanted to build something that streamlines the disparate systems and product complexities associated with networking today into one unified stack. We had to build it all from the ground up, designing our own hardware, software, and operations to be tightly integrated. At the heart of this system sits our warehouse operations.
Our central warehouse manages the shipping, receiving, and storage of all Meter orders. But our warehouse operations extend beyond just housing and managing our hardware inventory—it's a strategic hub built for speed, accuracy, and scale. Our warehouse powers two foundational parts of the Meter offering: our digital twin pairing and our buyback program.
Trident: from physical inventory to pre-staged virtual networks
Before a single cable is run on-site, each Meter device is scanned using Trident, our proprietary warehouse management system, which assigns our physical inventory to a virtual device in the Meter Dashboard. This prepares our devices for on-site installation by ensuring all ports, VLANs, and security policies are pre-loaded before anything ships.
Typically, warehousing teams would pick SKUs, scan them, and leave it to the installer to manually configure devices on-site. Instead, our devices are scanned before they're packaged and autoconfigured directly in our Network Operating System (NOS) before anything is even plugged in. This leads to drastically fewer configuration errors, enhanced security with proper segmentation, and network installs that go live the same day the hardware arrives.
Dated legacy hardware in your space? We'll buy it back
Our warehouse also enables our hardware buyback initiative. Designed to simplify network cutovers and reduce waste, this program allows customers to trade in legacy networking equipment as part of their switch to Meter. Once identified and approved, we handle the logistics: uninstalling, shipping, and processing the old gear for resale or certified recycling.
Meter's buyback program is about making your switch to Meter simple and cost-effective. By pairing this program with our warehouse operations, we’re able to stage and ship new hardware while reclaiming and processing the old—all in one coordinated motion.
Our warehouse isn't just a back-end function
Our warehouse operations are designed to move fast. That’s critical for our customers—retailers opening new stores, logistics companies lighting up new warehouses, and schools preparing for the semester. The investment we’ve made in streamlining our approach enables us to same-day ship high volumes of pre-configured hardware, streamlining Day 0 and Day 1 for our team, our partners, and our customers.
This level of speed and precision translates directly into better outcomes, and is one more example of how we can create real operational leverage with our vertically integrated model.
